Matic warns rivals Chelsea gunning for top four spot

Midfielder Nemanja Matic has warned Chelsea’s top-four rivals that the Blues are gunning for the Champions League spots.

The west London side were 2-1 winners against Norwich City in the Premier League on Tuesday night after goals from Diego Costa and Kenedy.

Chelsea briefly hoisted themselves above Liverpool and into eighth place in the Premier League table thanks to their win at Carrow Road but are now in 10th place after conclusion of Wednesday games.

Guus Hiddink is unbeaten in domestic competitions since the Dutchman took over the reins of the Premier League champions in December from Jose Mourinho.

Speaking to Chelsea TV following Tuesday night’s win, Matic issued a Chelsea rallying cry in the race to secure a top-four finish.

“It is very important to win games,” Matic told Chelsea TV.

“We are a big team and we have to do this if we want to be closer to the first four. It is very difficult to catch them, but we will try our best to win every game.

“I think we can be in the first six, but we will try to win every game. I know it’s difficult, maybe impossible, but in football anything can happen. We will go game by game, step by step, and we will see in the end where we finish in the league.”

Chelsea host Stoke City in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge in their next game on Saturday afternoon.
The west London side host Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.
