Algeria head coach Georges Leekens has identified both Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho as Nigeria‘s dangermen ahead of their upcoming fixture tomorrow.
Iwobi and Iheanacho have both emerged in the first-teams at Arsenal and Manchester City respectively in the past 12 months and are now starring for their national team.
Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations in 2013 and they now have two of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents in their starting XI.
They face Algeria tomorrow evening in World Cup qualifying for the 2018 tournament in Russia, and Leekens believes Iwobi and Iheanacho are the dangermen for his team to watch out for.
“We have found out the two most important players in the Nigeria team Iwobi and Iheanacho, in tight spaces their teammates are always looking for them. They are also good at running behind unnoticed,” he said in his pre-match press conference.
“The key is to deny them access to the ball, as whichever formation Nigeria play, they are key not even their captain Mikel. Stopping Iheanacho and Iwobi will neutralise Nigeria’s complex formation.”
Iheanacho has shocked everyone in England with how easily he’s taken to the Premier League having scored eight goals in 17 shots on target since his debut for Manchester City.
Iwobi, on the other hand, is more of a creative force and has assisted three goals in the top flight for Arsenal so far this season. It is the joint most with Alexis Sanchez.
