Arsenal confident Ozil and Sanchez will sign new deals as Xhaka talks continue

Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will hold contract talks with the club at the end of the season with Arsenal confident both players plan to commit their futures to the Gunners.

One report today suggested talks with Ozil’s representatives had broken down but Standard Sport understands only initial negotiations had taken place and both parties plan to hold more detailed discussions once the campaign is over.

Both Ozil and Sanchez are waiting to see whether the club’s qualifies for next season’s Champions League and are seeking an indication from manager Arsene Wenger as to his summer transfer plans.

The Gunners are in negotiations to sign Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach but remain some way apart on their respective valuations of the player.

The Germam club are believed to have indicated they are willing to accept less than the original £35million valuation but still expect close to £30m. However, Arsenal are still believed to be hovering just above the £20m mark.

The Gunners are just four points above fifth-placed Manchester United, who play Crystal Palace at home 24 hours before Wenger’s side host West Brom at Emirates Stadium.

But Cesc Fabregas believes his former club will finish in the top four and even claimed they had a chance of winning the title before Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Palace.

“To be honest, up until the 81st minute when Crystal Palace scored, I still thought they were in the title race,” he said. “But obviously now it is over.

“Arsenal normally always end up playing well and finish their seasons very, very strong physically so I have no doubt they will be there [in the top four] if they play well.”
