Arsenal offer £300,000-a-week contract to Sanchez to block Chelsea move

Alexis Sanchez has been offered a £300,000-a-week contract by Arsenal, according to reports.

The Evening Standard claims the Gunners are willing to make the 28-year-old the Premier League’s highest paid player in an attempt to prevent him from joining Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Paul Pogba is currently the division’s top earner with his £290,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford.

But it’s now reported that the Gunners are willing to break their wage structure in order to keep the Chilean at the club.

Sanchez will have only a year remaining on his current £130,000-a-week contract with Arsenal by the end of the season, and has not given any indication that he is ready to sign an extension.

The report also claims that Sanchez is yet to respond to Arsenal’s latest proposal, although the offer may prove difficult to finance if the club fail to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Earlier this week, reports in Chile claimed that Manchester City are ‘very close’ to signing Sanchez, who is keen to work under Pep Guardiola rather than make the move to Chelsea.

Antonio Conte’s side were given major hope in their efforts to sign Sanchez last month after the Chilean admitted he would be prepared to stay in London with a team who have ‘aspirations’.
