Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke donated $1 million to Donald Trump

Arsenal’s controlling shareholder Stan Kroenke donated $1 million to Donald Trump’s inauguration fund in the latest link between the US President and the club, it has emerged.

Official disclosures revealed the contribution – the equivalent of £780,000 – by the 69-year-old Missouri-based billionaire to the celebrations marking the start of Mr Trump’s Presidency.

They came days after Mr Trump’s 11-year-old son Barron was pictured apparently wearing a full Arsenal strip on the south lawn of the White House during Monday’s traditional Easter Egg Roll.

It is thought he wore the Gunners strip for a visit by team members of US MLS team DC United to the President’s official residence for a kick-around with youngsters.

Twitter users speculated that Barron’s choice of strip could be related to Mr Trump’s friendship with broadcaster Piers Morgan, a well known Arsenal fan.

Mr Kroenke, who owns two-thirds of the north London club, was one of a number of English football club owners who stumped up for the inauguration in January.

Manchester United director Joel Glazer contributed $250,000 (£195,000), while Fulham owner Shahid Khan also gave $1 million.
