Arsenal reward Alex Iwobi’s fine form with new £8m deal

Alex Iwobi has signed a new five-year contract at Arsenal worth around £30,000 a week.

The 19-year-old midfielder has impressed since breaking into the Gunners’ first-team set-up of late and Arsene Wenger has now rewarded his fine form with a bumper new contract.

Iwobi was earning in the region of £10,000 a week on his previous deal which was only signed in October of last year, but the Mirror are now reporting that his weekly wages have been increased by up to £20,000. Furthermore, if the youngster sees out his new contract, he will earn a total of £7.8 million.

The new deal will see him remain at the Emirates until 2021 and Arsenal will be glad to have one of their most promising young prospects tied down to the club.

It caps a memorable few weeks for Iwobi, who impressed on his full Champions League debut against Barcelona at the Nou Camp and scored on his first ever Premier League start in a 2-0 win over Everton prior to the international break.

His progression has also seen him thrust into the international spotlight with Nigeria and, just days after scoring and assisting in an emphatic 4-0 rout of Watford, the influential midfielder has now been presented with a handsome new deal.

Iwobi was one of the best players on the pitch at the weekend and he could yet have a big part to play as Arsenal look to chase down leaders Leicester City in the race for the Premier League title this season.
