Aubameyang reportedly edging closer to shock €70m Liverpool move

Liverpool are ready to meet Borussia Dortmund’s asking price for talented Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

That is according to French publication Le Parisien, who are also reporting that the player, who turned 28 this Sunday, is keen to rejoin Jurgen Klopp, having worked with him at BVB in the past.

The German side will demand upwards of €70m for their player, but the Reds owners haven’t been put off by the sum and are understood to be prepared to back Klopp in the endeavour.

Aubameyang scored 40 goals in 45 appearances for Dortmund last season, helping the club to a third-place finish on the Bundesliga table. His remarkable ability in front of goal, coupled with his pace, has made him one of the more sought-after talents on the European stage.

Liverpool would certainly challenge for the Premier League title if Klopp were to add the striker to their ranks this summer, yet Dortmund are keen on holding onto him, although they have made it known that certain incoming offers will be considered.

“I think he will stay with us,” club CEO Hans-Joachim Watze told the German media back in April. “But if Real Madrid or Barcelona come along with an offer, maybe he’ll think about it.

“The rest of the clubs who are interested in him are not really an alternative for him. And certainly not Bayern [Munich] because we wouldn’t allow him join them.”
