Batshuayi ready to replace injured Morata at Chelsea

Michy Batshuayi says Alvaro Morata’s hamstring injury could be the perfect chance for him to prove his worth to Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has started only once in the Premier League this season, with manager Antonio Conte preferring to play £60m record signing Morata as a lone forward.

Batshuayi has shone in the cup competitions this campaign though, netting five goals, including a last-minute winner in the 2-1 Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid in September.

And with Morata facing the possibility of a spell on the sidelines, Batshuayi is hoping to grasp the opportunity to impress with both hands.

“It sounds strange to say, but someone’s bad luck is sometimes the happiness of the other,” the Belgium international told Sky Sports News.

“I know that I will have more playing opportunities in the coming weeks. It’s up to me to show that I’m capable. I know Conte has confidence in me. Otherwise, he would have let me leave during the summer.

“It’s a chance for me. If I’m called on, I want to be ready and efficient. I have to stay really focused.

“I’ve already started games at Chelsea and played well. I’m an efficient striker, but I’m not a joker.”
