Real Madrid re-sign Morata from Juventus

Real Madrid have announced that Alvaro Morata has been bought back from Juventus and that he will participate in the club’s pre-season.

While his return was widely expected, it was not clear if the 23-year-old would remain at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu or if he would be sold on for a profit – which makes his inclusion in Zinedine Zidane’s pre-season plan particularly interesting.

Los Blancos’ decision was revealed in a statement on the club’s website.

“Real Madrid have informed Juventus of their decision to reclaim the federative rights on the player Alvaro Morata,” it started.

“[He] will join up with the first team for pre-season training under the command of Zinedine Zidane.”

Morata scored 11 goals in 52 appearances for the Real Madrid first team before his 2014 move to Juventus in a deal which included a buy-back clause of €32 million.

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta had earlier revealed that the Spanish club had informed them they would exercise their right to repurchase the Spanish international, who has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea.

“In the coming days, they will put it in writing,” Marotta said in comments reported by Gazzetta dello Sport. “We’ll see what we can do but the possibilities of keeping him are reduced.”

Morata has 11 caps with Spain and scored twice during their 3-0 Euro 2016 win against Turkey on Friday.
