Captain Mikel hails Musa, promises to lead Nigeria to victory

New team Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has applauded former skipper Ahmed Musa for stepping down afterthe CSKA Moscow forward handed the armband to him ahead of Nigeria’s crucial match with Egypt.

A delighted Mikel promised to lead the team to greater heights begining with victory over the Pharoahs of Egypt inKaduna on Friday.

“I thank you all for coming here today and I say thank to Musa for being a wonderful professional and it takes a man to do what he did and I thank the chief coach for this opportunity and I promise to give my best,” Mikel told the media during a press conference.

“‎I will not let you all down.”

On his first task as new Eagles captain, Mikel who has been in tremendous form for Chelsea this season said the team will have to improve tactically to be able beat a tough Egyptian side.

“The game is going to be a tough one, we know we have to win. ‎We don’t need to spend more time thinking about Egypt,” he said.

“We need to spend more time on our tactics. We just need to make sure we play to our strengths and win here and also in Egypt.”

Mikel also ‎believes the trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi are the future of the team.

“The new set of young players are the future of the team and I love the integration of the players in the team.”
