Chelsea coach thrilled as Blues send him on loan to Vitesse

Chelsea have sent coach Andy Myers to Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem on loan for a season in a bid to give their former player a chance to develop his style.

Myers played for the Blues from 1991 until 1999 and has worked with the club’s academy, after retiring from the game in 2005.

Chelsea have sent an abundance of young talent across to Vitesse in the Dutch top flight over the last few years, including the likes of Nemanja Matic, Gael Kakuta, and currently Lewis Baker and Brazilian forward Nathan.

It seems as though the Premier League side is keen to take their relationship with Vitesse to the next level and have sent Myers across to the Eredivisie club to further learn more about coaching.

On the move, Myers told the Chelsea website: “I’m looking forward to joining the coaching staff of Vitesse. I know Vitesse and their style of play and I hope to develop together with the staff.”

Myers will link up with the first-team at Vitesse while his position as the Under-21s assistant coach at Chelsea is set to be filled by Ian Howell.

The 42-year-old has agreed a one-year deal at the Gelredome and will return to Chelsea next season, having spent a year working with manager Henk Fraser in Holland.

Vitesse finished ninth in the Eredivise last season, while Chelsea could only manage tenth in the Premier League.
