Chelsea confident of keeping Azpilicueta despite Barcelona interest

Chelsea are not worried about losing Cesar Azpilicueta despite talk in Spain of new Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde making the defender a top target.

The Premier League champions are in a strong position with Azpilicueta contracted until 2020 and happy with life in London.

Azpilicueta played every single minute of every single match for Chelsea as they won the title under Antonio Conte.

The 27-year-old, who played in their back three, only cost £7million when he was signed from Marseille in 2012.

Reports in Spain say Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is another on Barcelona’s radar in their search for a right back.

It is not the first time that Azpilicueta has been linked with Barcelona. After transfer talk earlier in the season, he told the Guardian: ‘It’s flattering to be linked to Barcelona: it means you’re playing well. I wasn’t hearing those sort of stories last season. That’s a consequence of us being top of the Premier League, things are going well.

‘My objective since I arrived was to grow as a player and a person. I’ve adapted to the city, to the country. I feel settled, I’m comfortable with the language, my family is very happy. Right now my only objective is to continue with Chelsea.’
