Chelsea set to battle Liverpool for Bosnian international defender

Liverpool and Chelsea are said to be among a clutch of clubs who are looking at the 23-year-old left back Sead Kolasinac.

The German media outlet, Bild, reckons that that the Bosnian international could be on his way to England before too long.

Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, the defender played for Germany at youth international level but then opted for Bosnia who he made his senior debut for in 2013.

The powerful left-sided player moved from Stuttgart to Schalke in 2011 and has become a regular in the side of late, playing 28 games and scoring 1 goals last season.

Liverpool have unearthed the defensive talents of James Milner at left-back and he’s still only 30. But Alberto Moreno continues to look susceptible in the defending part of his game and on loan Jon Flanagan is naturally right footed.

Meanwhile Chelsea have decent cover at left-back with the newly signed Alonso and the adaptable talents of Cesar Azpilicueta. They also spent a lot of money on Baba Rahman who is currently on loan at Schalke. Perhaps a swap could be on the offing?

But Sead Kolasinac is the perfect age to offer a long-term solution and left-footed players of this calibre are few and far between. He’s powerful, solid but has that sort of buccaneering style that both Chelsea and Liverpool like to see in their full backs.
