Antonio Conte called on Chelsea to find a ‘killer’ instinct after a three-minute collapse cost his side victory in their draw with Swansea City.
Chelsea were in complete control after Diego Costa’s opener but self-destructed with mistakes by Thibaut Courtois and Gary Cahill, before the striker rescued a point with his acrobatic second.
Conte had no complaints over Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty, conceded in a rash challenge by Courtois, but felt Cahill was wronged in a ‘double foul’ for Leroy Fer’s strike moments later.
The centre back had his heels clipped twice as he was robbed off possession to gift Fer his goal — and his manager says referee Andre Marriner got it wrong.
‘For the second goal, I think everyone can see the double foul on Cahill,’ Conte said. ‘I think there is a great mistake, a great mistake of the referee. But this can happen.
‘We had the possibility to kill the game and, if you have that possibility, you must kill the game. We must learn this.
‘We were leading 1-0 and then and then we risked losing the game. It’s difficult to think we lost those two points today. But now we must work and prepare for the next game.’
Conte also felt that at least one of Swansea’s defenders should have seen red after Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez were both booked in running battles with the fiery Costa.
‘I think that the defenders know him and, sometimes, try to provoke him,’ he said. ‘It’s incredible the defender didn’t finish (get sent off) before the end of the match.’
