Conte admits he fears he could be sacked by Chelsea

Antonio Conte admits there is every chance he will fail to see out his three year contract at Chelsea, despite the incredible success he looks set to achieve in his first season at the club.

Saturday’s convincing 3-1 win over Swansea at Stamford Bridge sent Chelsea 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League with just 12 games remaining.

The Italian has made a sensational impact in west London since he was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s successor in the summer, but believes Claudio Ranieri’s recent fate provides a stark warning.

Conte’s compatriot was dismissed by champions Leicester less than 10 months on from masterminding a 5000-1 triumph, while Mourinho warned Conte that winning the Premier League title could represent a poisoned chalice and the 47-year-old appeared to be in agreement with his predecessor.

The Blues boss said: “I think that in this football, in this type of modern football, it is not easy to start a project or to be sure you will stay in a for a long time in the same team. It is not only for me but for all coaches.

“Then for sure if you have the possibility to stay for many years in the same team, yeah, you can work to improve your idea. You can work to improve your players.

“But the results…the results in this football is very important. We all know this and it can happen that one season you win the title and the next you can be going on your way.”

Chelsea are now closing in on the title and they did it by equalling a club record of 12 consecutive home wins.

Conte added: “For sure it is a great achievement for the team, the players, also for me. This is my first season and to equal this record is fantastic for me, for the players. It is important for us to continue this way.

“When you equal this record it means that you are doing well and that probably you stay on top of the table when we have this type of result. Now it’s important to continue to try to improve this situation, it’s very good.”
