Conte: Why I gave my Chelsea players an extra day off following Arsenal win

Antonio Conte has explained why he gave his Chelsea players an extra day off following their 3-1 win over Arsenal.

The Blues have been in exceptional form this season, winning their 15 of their last 17 Premier League games which has seen them go nine points clear at the top.

Against Arsenal, Chelsea were in excellent form as for the most part, they dominated the Gunners and eased to victory. However, the game could have been different, had Arsenal been more clinical in the first-half.

But following the Blues’ top of the clashes with Arsenal and Liverpool, Conte has explained why he gave his players an extra day off.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, Conte said, as reported by the Mirror: “After the Arsenal game I wanted to give them one day off more, I thought they deserved it after an intensive week.

“It is important, there are different moments. There are moments you must work very hard. In the season you have to work very hard, but there are times that you need to have a couple of days off to relax for your family and come back fresher.

“Then we start to work very hard. Our results depend on our work. If they want to relax in different countries. the important thing is they come back with the right attitude. They have done.”

Conte has had the luxury of being able to rest his players for longer periods than most of the Blues’ rivals, seeing Chelsea aren’t in the Champions League.

However, next season will be a different proposition for the Blues as they are all but certain of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
