Daley Blind: England will be crazy to drop Rooney from Euros

John Marshall:

DUTCH captain Daley Blind insists England would be mad to ditch Wayne Rooney and believes his Manchester United team-mate will be a crucial player at this summer’s Euros.

Blind has been shocked by calls for England’s record goalscorer to be ditched by manager Roy Hodgson on the back of Saturday’s 3-2 win in Germany.

He said: “When a player like Wayne Rooney is fit he is a very special footballer who can make every team better.

“There is no question that he has exceptional qualities and you are definitely going to need him to make some things better.”

Yet Blind’s father Danny, who will manage the Dutch team in tonight’s Euro warm-up at Wembley, is convinced that England’s future lies with their young stars.

He said: “England is a good team with young and promising players.

“It’s more difficult to beat England than in the past. Holland have had good results against England before but now they appear to play more modern, less predictable football.

“Maybe they have a bit more of a European style influenced by all the foreign coaches and players here in the Premier League.
