David Luiz “hungry” for the title after missing Chelsea’s league-winning season

Chelsea transfer deadline day signing David Luiz is keen to win some silverware with the Blues as he claims he has unfinished business having missed their title-winning season in 2014/15.

Luiz signed for Chelsea last night for a fee for upwards of £34 million, re-joining the club two years after leaving for Paris Saint-Germain for £50m.

The Brazilian defender was a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge before his departure, though many struggled to comprehend why PSG paid so much money for Luiz, who at times struggles to display the calmness under pressure a top-level centre half should possess.

However, he is now back in west London with Chelsea and has outlined his ambitions as he prepares to join up with Antonio Conte’s squad.

Luiz told Chelsea TV: “I think this is the past [his previous three trophies won with Chelsea], I need to win again. I am hungry to win.

“Of course I want to win the Premier League, but of course I want to win all the other titles [Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup] again.

“I’m here because I have ambition to play for a big club and when you play for a big club you need to think about winning every single match.”

Determined to win silverware was not his only incentive to rejoin, though, with Luiz citing an emotional attachment to Chelsea.

He added: “I am very happy to be here again. It is fantastic to have a second opportunity to play for this club, I love this club, that’s why I’m here. Let’s try to continue the nice history with a lot of joy and try to get success.

“Did I think I’d ever play here again? In football anything can happen. Everybody knows I have a feeling for this club. Of course sometimes I could imagine that [coming back to Chelsea].

“I am very, very happy to be here. It will be an amazing opportunity for me to show the fans again how I love this club and how I love to play for this club. I can’t wait to wear the shirt and play at Stamford Bridge again.”

The 29-year-old made 143 appearances for Chelsea in his first spell at the club, including 81 in the Premier League.

In terms of silverware, during his four seasons at the club, Luiz won three major trophies as Chelsea picked up the FA Cup in 2012, the Champions League in the same season and the Europa League a year later.

In only two years at PSG, Luiz has won nine trophies so is returning to England as a serial winner and could bring an important mentality back with him.
