David Luiz: My love for Chelsea made me return to the club

Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed that his love for the club convinced him to return to Stamford Bridge.

The centre-back had an eventful time during his initial spell at Chelsea, which included him winning the Champions League, and Luiz is determined to win the Premier League during this spell.

Luiz told ESPN Brazil: “I love this club and I saw that if I came back it was because there was a story to continue.

“I did not get the Premier League (title) on my first pass and this is a goal I have now. To help in what I can to win this championship. Conte has been great in that regard.

“Chelsea continue their pursuit of the title with a game against reigning champions Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.”

Although there was a considerable amount of scepticism surrounding Luiz’s move from Paris-Saint Germain to Chelsea, the Brazilian has been hugely impressive so far and has played a fundamental part as Antonio Conte’s side have established themselves as favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

An impressive distributor of the ball, Luiz has been successful with 84% of his attempted passes in the Premier League this campaign, while he has averaged seven defensive actions per game.

Despite their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last week, Chelsea remain top of the Premier League table and are currently five points ahead of their closest challengers Liverpool.
