Dele Alli’s season could be over as youngster accepts violent conduct charge

Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli has accepted the Football Association’s charge of violent conduct for his off-the-ball altercation with West Bromwich Albion midfielder Claudio Yacob.

Alli was seen on replays punching Yacob in the stomach during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with West Brom on Monday night and the England midfielder now faces missing the remaining three fixtures of the season.

The 20-year-old has accepted the FA’s charge of violent conduct, according to BBC Sport, and now faces the potential of a three-match ban for his actions.

It’s a disappointing end to what has been a remarkable campaign for the midfielder after emerging as one of the most talented young stars in Europe over the past 12 months.

After arriving at Spurs from MK Dons last summer, many were excited by his potential but no one expected Alli to have the season he had, as he’s scored 10 goals in the top flight, become a regular in the England senior side and been awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

The midfielder had a frustrating game against the Baggies with plenty of confrontations with Yacob, but his manager Mauricio Pochettino believes he was provoked.

“Sometimes the opponents find him and try to provoke. They know he has a strong character and may react,” the Argentine said post-match.
