Drogba to play in MLS playoffs after resolving issues with Montreal Impact

Didier Drogba will play in the MLS playoffs despite his falling out with Montreal Impact.

The Chelsea legend, now 38, refused to be part of the club’s match day squad for Sunday’s clash with Toronto, after being told by manager Mauro Biello that he would only be a substitute.

Drogba insisted that he would start or not take his place on the bench, and when Biello refused, the veteran – who has scored 10 goals this season – walked out.

The Impact insisted that Drogba had been left out due to a back problem, but after the 2-2 draw the club’s hierarchy met with Drogba, and have now revealed that they have worked through their differences.

“We met with Didier,” Impact president Saputo said. “The situation has been resolved to the club’s satisfaction.

“Didier has accepted to assume the role that the head coach sees fit while contributing to the success of this club moving forward.

“When he came to Montreal Didier said he came here to win, and he still has the same objective.”

“Our main priority now is to focus on the last game of the season and the upcoming playoffs. With the players and the leadership that we have on this team, we are convinced we can make a run at the MLS Cup.”

Montreal have already clinched a post-season spot ahead of the weekend’s final league fixture.

Drogba was last week linked with a January return to Europe, with Italian side Napoli.
