Ex-Arsenal forward Baptista to be released by Orlando City

Former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista has been dealt the blow of being snubbed for a new contract with Orlando City, according to reports in Brazil.

The 35-year-old has not played at the top level in Europe since a spell with Malaga between 2011 and 2013, and is now set to be let go by the MLS outfit.

It’s not been a great week for ex-Gunners, with Brazilian midfielder Denilson also seeing his loan deal terminated at Cruzeiro after failing to win the club over.

Baptista only spent one season at the Emirates Stadium in 2006/07, joining on loan from Real Madrid, where he later spent one final season before being shipped off to AS Roma.

Like Denilson, Baptista was once seen as a huge prospect but saw his career go badly downhill at Arsenal and never really recovering elsewhere.

It remains to be seen if the former Brazil international will continue playing at this late stage in his career if he does not find a new club soon.
