Fabregas: I hardly knew De Bruyne before this season

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he’s been impressed by Man City star Kevin De Bruyne this season. Furthermore, the playmaker also admitted that he didn’t know much about the Belgian prior to his transfer to the Etihad.

De Bruyne, 24, joined Man City in the summer from Wolfsburg for £55 million and the Belgian winger has been a major success for the Citizens already.

The Belgian spent two years at the Blues between 2012 and 2014 but only managed three league appearances.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Werder Bremen before Chelsea cut ties with the midfield maestro and sold him to Wolfsburg.

One season in the Bundesliga catapulted him onto the international stage that saw Manchester City splash £55m on him last summer.

The 24-year-old has impressed many fans due to his ability to carry the ball and his excellent end product. De Bruyne’s form has lead to many questioning why Jose Mourinho allowed him to leave Chelsea, as he’s proving to be one of the Premier League’s best wingers under Manuel Pellegrini.

However, Fabregas was asked if he’s been impressed by the Belgian international and the playmaker confessed he didn’t know De Bruyne was this talented.

Fabregas, speaking ahead of the release of the EA SPORTS FIFA 16 Ultimate Team – Team of the Season, said: “Yes, mostly because I hardly knew about him before this season.

“I didn’t really watch the German league in the few years he was there so yes he’s impressed me because I didn’t know that he had that much quality.

“I think he fits in very well with Manchester City’s footballing style.”

Meanwhile, De Bruyne has played 23 times in the Premier League this season, scoring six goals. The Belgian has been a real creative force creating 71 chances, registering nine assists.

De Bruyne was also one of Man City’s bright spots as they drew 0-0 with Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Although the Citizens failed to score, they will fancy their chances of getting a crucial away goal next week especially with De Bruyne in their team.
