Fears grow Coutinho could miss rest of the year after injury

Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho has thanked his fans for their support as he waits to find out the extent of the injury he suffered against Sunderland at the weekend.

The Brazilian was caught late by Black Cats midfielder Didier Ndong during the first half of the Reds’ 2-0 win at Anfield and is set to undergo a scan on Monday to establish the full extent of the damage.

While a fracture of the ankle appears unlikely, there are fears that the 24-year-old be out for the rest of the 2016 with damaged ligaments.

And while he sweats on the prognosis, Coutinho has taken to Instagram to show his gratitude for the support sent his way.

“I’d like to thank my family, fans and friends for all the positive messages, that’s very important to me,” he posted on the social network.

The Brazil star was at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex on crutches yesterday, wearing a protective boot.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for good news, as Liverpool face a tricky December, with six fixtures that month, including a Merseyside derby and New Year’s Eve clash with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Anfield.
