Glenn Hoddle backs Dele Alli to become Tottenham’s greatest ever player

Glenn Hoddle believes Dele Alli possesses the belief and strength of character to develop into the best player Tottenham have ever had.

Alli has been sensational for Spurs since making the transition from League One to Premier League football with the midfielder breaking into the England set-up and become an essential part of Tottenham’s team in less than a year.

The 20-year-old was included in England’s Euro 2016 squad after scoring ten goals in the Premier League last season and Alli has already netted four times this campaign – including in Spurs’ 2-1 win over Burnley at the weekend.

Hoddle was recently named Tottenham’s best player in a new book called Down Memory Lane but the Spurs legend feels there’s a chance for Alli to overtake him in that ranking if they do another poll in 20 years.

The 59-year-old reckons he and Alli share a number of qualities and believes he will be an exciting asset for Tottenham for years to come.

Hoddle said, according to the Express: “If he stays at the club for a long time and produces the goals he can produce then I think there’s a possibility. That’s the exciting thing for Tottenham fans and the future of the club.

“We are different players in style but he’s got a belief about himself. He’s a young player who came in and I don’t think he was going to be bullied by anybody.

“I was 17 when I went in and you have to be strong-minded. You have to believe in yourself. I had that belief and Dele Alli has got that as well. Long may that continue for club and country.”
