Griezmann: Bayern Munich harder opponent than Real Madrid

Antoine Griezmann believes Atlético Madrid‘s most difficult Champions League game this season was away to Bayern Munich, not the Milan final against city rivals Real.

Atlético lost the showpiece event over the weekend on penalties after it ended 1-1 following extra time.

Despite the loss, Griezmann believes their toughest game of the European season was in Munich, though conceding the level of emotion was a lot higher on Saturday evening.

“The hardest game was in Munich, but this was the most emotional. We gave everything and penalties are a lottery,” he said, as reported by Football Espana.

Both games demonstrated the highs and lows football can bring in a short space of time.

Griezmann was the hero in Germany scoring the all-important away goal which saw Atléti reach their second Champions League final in three seasons. However, in the final itself he would miss a crucial spot kick in regular time, even though he made amends in the subsequent shoot-out.

It was a disappointing end to what has been a fruitful season for the France international.

Across a grand total of 54 appearances for Los Rojiblancos this term, he’s managed 32 goals whilst assisting a further seven.

For now, Griezmann’s undivided attention is with the French national team as they prepare to host this summer’s European Championships.

Since debuting for Les Bleus under Didier Deschamps in March 2014, he’s gone on to win 26 international caps with seven goals under his belt.
