Guardiola admits Tottenham were better than Man City

Pep Guardiola admitted that Tottenham were much the better side and deserved the win after he suffered his first defeat as Manchester City manager at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

An own goal from Aleksandar Kolarov and one from Dele Alli put Spurs 2-0 up at half-time and Mauricio Pochettino’s side comfortably saw out the remainder of the game.

After picking up 10 straight wins in all competitions, Guardiola has suffered a difficult week, drawing 3-3 with Celtic and losing to Spurs – a result the Spaniard said was completely deserved.

“They were better. We were not in the right positions so congratulations to them,” he told Sky Sports.

“Losing is part of the game, part of our job. I never thought that we would not lose a game, you can’t imagine that. It is normal to the process, sometimes it happens and it can help us improve.

“It is October, you cannot imagine my team is already done. I am new here. So far it has been an amazing performance but we need more, we have to work more, it is what it is.

“At the end of the season you can win and still realise that you are not perfect.”

City were completely out-played by Pochettino’s side, with the home side flying out of the blocks and dominating the first half.

They took the lead when Kolarov inadvertently turned the ball into his own net from Danny Rose’s dangerous cross.

And the lead was doubled when Son Heung-min combined well with Alli to take advantage of some poor City positioning to fire a low finish past keeper Claudio Bravo.
