Guardiola confirms Sergio Aguero will remain at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Sergio Aguero will be at Manchester City next season despite speculation surrounding his future at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero scored twice in City’s 5-1 win over Watford to take his Premier League tally up to 20 for the season but the Argentinian has been linked with a departure from the Premier League club in recent months.

The January acquisition of Gabriel Jesus has seen the 28-year-old dropped to the bench for a number of matches in 2017 and further add to concerns among City fans that Aguero could leave the club this summer.

But Guardiola has now announced that Aguero and club captain Vincent Kompany would definitely be remaining in his side and will be a part of his plans for the new campaign.

Guardiola said when asked about the striker, per the Daily Mail: “He will be here next season. Happy? Good. Perfect.

“I am not repeating. They are players for Manchester City and will be at Manchester City next season. We have to provide him with better solutions to not only score more goals, but he has done his job really well.”

City earned a third placed finish in the Premier League with the win over Watford and will go straight into the Champions League group stages next season.

Aguero now has 169 goals for Manchester City since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011, making him the club’s second highest scorer and putting him just eight behind top goal-getter Eric Brook.
