Gunners legend Ian Wright blasts Arsenal players for letting Sanchez down

Ian Wright has questioned why the Arsenal players aren’t replicating Alexis Sanchez’s work rate after Sunday evening’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester City.

The Gunners lost their second successive Premier League despite Theo Walcott giving the north London side a fifth-minute lead at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal were disappointing in the second half as goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling wrapped up three points for the Citizens against their title rivals.

Arsene Wenger’s side have dropped down to fourth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Chelsea in the title race.

Sanchez has scored 11 goals in 17 Premier League appearances this term as the Chile international continues to propel Arsenal forward.

While Wright accepts that not all the Gunners players can match Sanchez’s natural ability, the former Arsenal striker is unhappy that they’ve been unable to replicate their team-mate’s work-rate.

“I look at Alexis Sanchez. He looks fit and full of running,” Wright told BBC’s 606 podcast.

“You look at other people and they don’t look like they’ve got the same intensity about them. I don’t expect Arsenal players to be as good as Sanchez in terms of skill and ability but you want them to match his output. If you do that Arsenal would be doing a lot better.”

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season after finishing 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
