Hazard and Ashley Cole named in Sturridge’s dream five-a-side team

When Daniel Sturridge was asked to choose his dream five-a-side team made up solely of former teammates, the Liverpool striker looked to one of his old clubs in Chelsea to pick two of his squad members.

In an interview with Liverpool’s official partner Subway, the 26-year-old opted to pick current Blues forward Eden Hazard and former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole for two of the positions in his team while looking to the Reds for inspiration for the rest of the places in his team.

While choosing himself in attack, Sturridge picked Philippe Coutinho on the wing and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, now with MLS side LA Galaxy, for the midfield position.

But, perhaps controversially, the striker chose to omit a goalkeeper from his team.

Speaking about his picks, Sturridge said: “I’ll have to go with no goalkeeper. I’ll go straight-up outfield players.

“Steven Gerrard. I’ll need a defender in there so I’d quite like to put Ashley Cole because he can attack, and he’s good technically.

“Hazard, probably Coutinho, as well. Coutinho will squeeze in there. I’ve got to play. I’m not going to be on the bench. So, I’ll have to pick myself.”
