Ibrahimovic bemoans avoidable PSG mistakes after City draw

Zlatan Ibrahimovic lamented Paris Saint-Germain’s errors in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at home to Manchester City, with the striker demanding improvement for the return leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Ibrahimovic had a first-half penalty saved, while the Swede hit the crossbar as City punished PSG defensively to score two priceless away goals in an entertaining opening leg in Paris.

City caught PSG on the break to take a 38th-minute lead via Kevin De Bruyne, after Joe Hart denied Ibrahimovic from the spot, but the latter restored parity three minutes later.

PSG then hit the front just on the hour-mark thanks to Adrien Rabiot, only for City to equalise with 18 minutes remaining as Fernandinho pounced on some sloppy defending inside the penalty area.

The performance in the French capital did not sit well with Ibrahimovic, though the 34-year-old remains hopeful of securing a spot in the semi-finals.

“We made avoidable mistakes. Our opponents took advantage of those mistakes, they punished us and we felt attacked as rarely before,” Ibrahimovic told BeIN Sports.

“But we had chances, and then there was that penalty I missed. It’s like that.

“We remain hopeful, we always keep hope: we are strong, we are confident. But we’ll have to do better in the second leg, much better.”

Ibrahimovic and Co. travel to Manchester to face City in the return leg on April 12.
