Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly been named as the secondary vice-captain of Manchester United for the coming season.
The 34-year-old is believed to be set to take the armband when skipper Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick are not on the pitch.
According to The Sun , Ibrahimovic has accepted an invitation from manager Jose Mourinho to take the role, which he is no stranger to.
He occasionally led the team at Paris Saint-Germain, who he left last summer, while also taking on the same duty during the majority of his international career with Sweden.
A United insider reportedly said: “Some of the other lads, especially the young ones, are in awe of Zlatan.
“He brings a presence to the place and people look up to him after everything that he has achieved through his career.
“He has experience at the highest level and is seen as an obvious captain when the other lads aren’t on the pitch.”
At United, Ibrahimovic is looking to add to the league titles that he won in the Netherlands, France, Italy and Spain over the course of his career.
To do so, he will lead the line with Rooney – who he believes is the perfect man to partner up front.
He told MUTV : “I think every big player can work with other big players.
“That’s not a problem. We are 11 players not two players on the pitch. It’s up to the coach what he wants but, with him, I see no problems. Only success.
“I said many years ago the perfect partner for a striker is Wayne Rooney. He works not only for himself but for the striker and the whole team. I’m absolutely happy to be one of the guys beside him.”
