Ibrahimovic vows to lead Man Utd to Premier League success

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has vowed to lead Manchester United to Premier League title once he returns from injury.

The striker missed the back-end of last season having picked up a cruciate ligament injury in United’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Anderlecht.

Originally signed on a one-year deal, many had expected Ibrahimovic’s career to be over but the Swede signed an extension with United during the summer and is now aiming for a return before the end of the year.

And Ibrahimovic insists he has unfinished business with the Premier League.

“I said I have come back to finish what I started,” Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports.

“Everything I built up in the first season – obviously we won the three trophies – the ending for me was not the ending I wanted, or nobody wanted, especially after how the season went.

“The target is the Premier League. That is my target to finish.

“Everything I started in the first season, we will finish in the second one.”

United are currently five points behind league leaders and local rivals Manchester City after nine games having lost their first domestic game of the season to Huddersfield Town last Saturday.

When he moved to the Premier League for the first last summer at the age of 35, there had been doubts over whether Ibrahimovic could compete in English football.

The striker did not take too long in showing his ability, scoring four goals in his first four Premier League games.

Despite missing 10 games through suspension and his injury, Ibrahimovic ended the campaign as United’s top scorer in the league with 17 goals and was the only player at the club to reach double figures last season.

While Ibrahimovic has been adequately replaced for goals in the United starting line-up by Romelu Lukaku – who has seven goals in nine league games – with Wayne Rooney being sold and Michael Carrick on the fringes, the Swede still has a big part to play in the dressing room.
