Iceland players buy Ronaldo’s match shirt for teammate Gunnarsson after snub

Cristiano Ronaldo caused quite a storm after Portugal were frustrated in their opening game against Iceland when he appeared to snub a shirt-swap.

The game finished with Ronaldo refusing to shake Icelandic hands and blasting the team for having a “small mentality”.

Iceland, who battled to a 0-0 draw and then a 1-1 draw with Hungary, are the smallest nation to have qualified for Euro 2016, with a population of just 330,000 against the 10.3million Portugal can call on.

Not only did Ronaldo petulantly blast his opponents, he even refused to give opposition captain Aron Gunnarsson his shirt as a memento – and was quite rude about it.

“Who are you?” Was the alleged response when the Cardiff City midfielder asked the Real Madrid superstar at the end of 90 minutes – although Gunnarsson later said that Ronaldo had told him to get the shirt in the tunnel but that it had never came.

After a long week of waiting, Gunnarsson finally has his ‘Ronaldo 7′ shirt – courtesy of his Icelandic team-mates.

Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson revealed on his Instagram page that striker Alfred Finnbogason ended shirtgate by buying his skipper one at the shops.
