Idris Kanu snubs Man Utd to join Aldershot Town

Manchester United trialist Idris Kanu has signed for Aldershot Town, just a month after netting two goals for the Under-18 side at Carrington.

The 16-year-old made his debut for the National League side in their 2-0 win over Solihull Moors on Saturday.

The former West Ham academy player got on the scoresheet in United’s 5-1 win over Middlesbrough last month, with Shots manager Gary Waddock keen to help him realise his full potential.

“We’re fortunate to have signed a very talented player,” Shots manager Gary Waddock told the club’s official website.

“We need to make sure that we help him to realise his potential but we are planning for the future.”

Kanu was poised to become United’s next academy recruit after the Carrington performance, but the surprise move will see Kanu with a chance of first-team football.

Joining the Hammers at 11-years-old, Kanu broke into their Under-21 side when he was just 15.

New United Under-18 coach Kieran McKenna saw his side secure a draw against Sunderland at the weekend, with the Red Devils currently topping the Under-18 North League but have played three more games than Manchester City, who are two points behind.
