Iheanacho is a “killer in the box” – Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Kelechi Iheanacho‘s gifts in the opponents’ penalty area.

Iheanacho was hugely impressive last season as he made a major impact upon breaking into the City first-team, but he has endured some frustrating moments this campaign as he has seen his game time restricted.

There have been suggestions that the 20-year-old could leave City on loan this summer, but Guardiola insisted that a decision is yet to be made on Iheanacho’s future.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game against Leicester City, Guardiola said: “Kelechi is a young player – a killer in the box. He is strong and fast. At the end of the season we will talk about individual players.”

Iheanacho has been less ruthless in front of goal this season, scoring at a rate of just 0.66 times per game compared to 0.90 per game last season.

He has, however, made significant strides forward with regards to providing assists and creating chances.

City, who are currently in fourth place in the table, will be determined to take all three points against Leicester as they look to claim a place in the Champions League for next season.
