Pogba: I am back home at Manchester United

Pogba: I am back home at Manchester United

Paul Pogba is delighted to be back at Old Trafford after sealing a mega return to Manchester United – the club he left for Juventus just four years ago.

France international Pogba left United as a teenager in search of senior football in 2012 and got a lot more than he bargained for at Juve, transforming himself into one of the world’s premier midfielders, winning four Serie A titles among other honours.

But now, Pogba is happy to return to United after the deal to bring him “home” was completed on Tuesday.

POGBA’S FIRST INTERVIEW: THE FULL TRANSCRIPT

MUTV: Paul, welcome back to Manchester United.

PAUL POGBA: Thank you.

How do you sum up your emotions right now?

There are no words to be honest, there are no words. I just came back to
Carrington, it was like I just came back home. It looks like I went for a holiday and I’ve come back home. I’m happy and I see everyone, the same people, just a great feeling to be honest.

I suppose it’s a funny question to ask after you’ve said that, but why are you back here at Manchester United? What made you come back?

I think it is destiny. First my mum told me I would come back here. I told her, you never know, we’ll see. For myself it’s a big challenge to come back to where I come from, to where I grew up and where I started. I didn’t finish what I started here, so I think I came to finish everything.

And of course, you have to listen to your mum. Everyone has to listen to their mum.

They say your mum is always right, so she was right this time. That’s good. How does it feel to be the world’s most expensive footballer? That’s quite an achievement with what you’ve already achieved on the pitch as well.

I only think about the pitch. I want to do great. I want to be one of the best. I want to win titles, I want to achieve things. That’s what I came here, to do this and become one of the best and to win titles. I know this club has to win titles, to win things to win big things. That’s what I’m focused on, just this. I’m ready to go and work on that, and just kill it.

What a mad summer it’s been for you, the Euros in your own country and then being linked with various different clubs around the world, signing for United and coming home, as you say, it’s been a bit of a mad time I suppose?

Yeah, there was a bit of sadness of course because we lost the final at home. But I would say I’m happy now. I’m back home. It’s something crazy, really crazy I can not explain. Very very happy the feeling I have in my body, I can’t wait to start.

What’s it like being Paul Pogba now, compared to when you were 17 or 18 here in this academy?

I was younger, now I’m taller, I’m bigger. As I told you, it looks like I went for a holiday and I came back home. I was meant to come back here. I feel this. I always had this United thing in my heart and that’s why I came back. And I’m happy. Just happy.

How have you changed as a player since you were here at United first time around? What have you learnt about your game and about yourself? How are you different?

I’ve got more experience, I’ve won titles at Juventus, I’ve been playing with big players. I’ve not come back for the academy now, I want to play somewhere else, and I came back as I would say as a person, as an adult, with experience, more games. That’s the difference.
