Inside new Complete Football: Why I missed US ’94 World Cup – Reuben Agboola

Former Super Eagles defender Reuben Agboola has disclosed why he was shut out of Nigeria’s first ever team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in the United States of America in 1994.
The half-caste revealed that a difference of opinions with some of the officials of the national team over unpaid bonuses and flight tickets re-imbursement was responsible for his exit from the team despite playing several games during the World Cup qualifiers.
In his words: “They (officials) had let me down many times and I don’t think I was ready for it again. I was owed money from the Senegal ’92 AFCON. I will buy tickets to come join the squad for matches and will spend 2 days running around Lagos to get a refund. Other times I won’t even get it back. They took advantage of my good nature many times. I used to just get fed up and leave the chase for refund and just return to England. No one called me back those times to come collect the money. So when I got the invite to join the camp in Holland for the world cup I said I wanted what I was owed first before joining up. I never heard back so I stayed put.”

Agboola, who was born in England to a Nigerian father and British mother also revealed all you ever wanted to know about his career in the latest edition of Complete Football digital edition which is currently online now.
