ALEX IWOBI and John Obi Mikel have thanked Nigerian fans for their support ahead of the crucial clash with Egypt.

Iwobi and Mikel will both be in action for the Super Eagles in the African Cup of Nations qualifier tomorrow afternoon (3pm).

And ahead of the crucial game, fans were invited to come and watch the team train and the Premier League pair were delighted with the support.

“I have never played on this pitch before but I appreciate these fans for all the love and respect they have shown me and the team,” Mikel told the Nigerian Football Federation.

Iwobi added: “They were cheering every move and making us feel like going full blast like it was a real game.

“I have no doubt they will create this again on Friday.”

Meanwhile, Mikel was today announced as the new captain for the Super Eagles, taking the armband from CSKA Moscow winger Ahmed Musa.

“Mikel is the oldest serving player in the team and it is the right thing for him to have the armband,” Musa told ESPN.

“The most important thing for us right now is to concentrate on the two games in front of us and make sure that we beat Egypt and qualify for the [African] Nations Cup.”
