Kante overwhelmed by award from fellow players

N’Golo Kante says being named PFA Player of the Year means the world to him.

The Chelsea midfielder beat team-mate Eden Hazard and Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez to crown two remarkable seasons in which he has been propelled from a near-unknown to one of Europe’s top players.

Former Leicester midfielder Kante looks set to win a second consecutive title with Chelsea, who are four points clear of Tottenham with six games left, and could add to his trophy haul if the Blues beat Arsenal in next month’s FA Cup Final.

And the acclaim of his peers only adds to what has been a period of celebration for the 26-year-old.

Kante told reporters: “To be chosen by the players to be player of the year means a lot to me.

“It means the world to be chosen and it’s been two beautiful seasons, one with Leicester, and we are in good form with Chelsea. To be player of the year, it’s a great honour.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte paid £32million to bring Kante from Leicester and it has proven to be a wise investment, the French international bringing the steel to help transform the Blues into title contenders.

On how he has made the move a success Kante added: “It’s a different type of playing, but with the manager, with the players, everything is easy, because we work a lot to be good in the games. It’s working very well.”

Conte has been glowing in his assessments of Kante in recent weeks, admitting he is struggling to find areas in which to : “He knows what he wants from the players.

“He wants to win, and we work very, very, very hard in training for him. He put a winning mentality into the squad, and everyone wants to give their best for the team, and to make Chelsea win titles.
