Kante: My understanding with Matic is the key to Chelsea’s good form

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante believes that his partnership with Nemanja Matic has been key to the club’s recent upturn in fortunes.

The pair have thrived at the base of the Chelsea midfield since manager Antonio Conte made the inspired decision to switch to a 3-4-3 formation and the club’s impressive form- they have won their last five top flight fixtures- suggests that they can challenge for the Premier League title this season.

As reported by the club’s official website, Kante said: “Chelsea have many very good midfielders, but most of the time I play with Matic and, yes, he’s a good player. In training we have done a lot of work together, so in the game we can understand each other.

“When he goes forward, I stay back. When I go forward, he stays back. When you play together, it’s good to understand each other and I think it is a good partnership.”

Kante played a pivotal part in Leicester City’s remarkable title success last campaign and the Frenchman will be seeking to lift the trophy again this time around.

The Blues struggled for consistency in the early stages of the season, but Conte’s tactical alteration has helped to bring the best out of several members of the team.

Kante certainly falls into that category- he has a stellar average pass accuracy of 90% in the Premier League this campaign, while he has averaged four defensive actions per game.

Chelsea, who are currently in second place in the Premier League table, face Middlesbrough away on Sunday in their next fixture as they seek to extend their winning sequence.
