Klopp guides Liverpool to club’s best Premier League start since Benitez

Liverpool have started the new season in fine form, making it their best for eight years since the start of the 2008/09 season when they were unbeaten after five games.

After five matches of the current campaign, Liverpool find themselves on 10 points having beaten Arsenal, Leicester City and Chelsea and drawn away to Tottenham Hotspur.

They have a goal difference of plus three which is one better than their start in 2013/14 when they almost won the Premier League title.

Three years ago, the Reds started the new season with three wins, a draw and a defeat but their goal difference of plus two was marginally shorter than their current side.

It means that Jurgen Klopp has guided the Reds to their best start since the heydays of Rafael Benitez’s spell in charge, despite having to play away at Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea and facing the reigning Premier League champions, Leicester, at Anfield.

Liverpool started the 13/14 campaign with 11 points after winning three and drawing twice.
