Klopp hails “world class” David Luiz free-kick against Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Chelsea defender David Luiz for his “world class” free-kick in tonight’s 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Luiz opened the scoring with a quickly struck set-piece that caught Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet out, but Liverpool eventually managed to respond, with Georginio Wijnaldum heading in the equaliser.

As reported by BBC Sport, Klopp said: “That was world class from David Luiz we have to say that. You have to say we have to be prepared but he was surprised.

“Even if he was prepared it would have been difficult to save it because it was hit well and right in the corner.

“Two seconds before he scored David Luiz was stood next to me talking to Conte and drinking water on the touchline!”

In a hard-fought game at Anfield Liverpool squandered some inviting opportunities to score, with Roberto Firmino the chief culprit.

However, in the end the Reds will surely be pleased to have taken a point, with Mignolet doing well to save Diego Costa’s penalty.

The result brought an end to Liverpool’s run of three successive defeats, although it still appears that winning the league will be beyond Klopp’s side this season – they are fourth in the table, ten points adrift of Chelsea, who still lead the way.

Next up for Liverpool is an away game against Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.
