Klopp reveals why Sturridge didn’t take a penalty against Man City

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that there was no chance of Daniel Sturridge taking a penalty in the
Capital One Cup final because he had cramps and could hardly walk.

Liverpool lost 3-1 on penalties on Sunday to Manchester City with Lucas Leiva, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana
all seeing their penalties saved by Willy Caballero.

After the game a lot of people, including former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, asked why Sturridge wasn’t down
to take a penalty, particularly ahead of the likes of Lucas.

Klopp revealed that Sturridge was in no shape to take a penalty at the end of 120 minutes.

Sturridge has only just come back from a long injury so it makes sense that he wouldn’t have been able to take one,
by the end of extra time he looked totally dead on his feet.

After the match Sturridge was pictured on TV looking very emotional and it would appear as if this could be related
to the fact that he couldn’t take a penalty for his team.

Klopp also revealed that James Milner, Liverpool’s regular penalty taker in the league, was down to take the fifth
penalty.

However, that doesn’t explain why captain Jordan Henderson wasn’t part of the five who were down to take penalties.
