Koscielny questions Wenger’s team selection in Arsenal’s collapse at Chelsea

Laurent Koscielny has appeared to question Arsene Wenger’s team selection as the inquest into Arsenal’s title collapse continues.

The France defender was part of the side easily beaten 3-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

With Arsenal now 12 points behind their London rivals Koscielny has conceded that the Gunners’ hopes are now slim.

He said: “I think we played some players in front of others and I think we should have played more as a team and there was space to do so. They hit us on the counter.

“It will be difficult now. Mathematically, nothing is done but we know that it is going to be very complicated.

“We need to come back to the quality of our game, our passing, movement.”

Wenger started with defender Gabriel on the bench and opted for Hector Bellerin, despite insisting after the defeat to Watford last week that he had played Gabriel in that match as the Brazilian was better able to cope with the Hornets’ physicality.

Gabriel was a first-half substitute against Chelsea after Bellerin was KO’d by Marcos Alonso.

Wenger also opted to start with Theo Walcott and under-fire Mesut Ozil either side of Alexis Sanchez with in-form Danny Welbeck, impressive against Southampton last month, on the bench.
