Liverpool Agree €10m Deal for Mainz Goalkeeper Karius

Liverpool have clinched the signing of 1. FSV Mainz 05 goalkeeper Loris Karius, Kicker reports.

Now that the Premier League season is over, Jurgen Klopp is clearly wasting no time as he sets about stamping his mark upon the Reds squad.

Simon Mignolet only signed a contract extension back in January, but the club still harbour doubts over his ability, so they have approached Mainz about sealing a deal for their highly-rated shot-stopper Karius.

The 22-year-old has recorded nine clean sheets in 34 Bundesliga appearances this year and he has made over 120 saves. Karius pledged his future to Die Nullfunfer until 2018, but the prospect of playing in the top-flight of English football has proven too tempting.

The €10m-rated German shot-stopper will face a tough task on his hand ousting Mignolet from the starting XI, but if the Reds overcome Sevilla in the Europa League final, he can also look forward to playing in the Champions League.

Klopp has been busy making improvements to his first-team squad, despite the fact that the season hasn’t officially concluded yet, having already captured Schalke’s towering defender Joel Matip and it is being widely reported that Udinese’s talented midfielder Piotr Zielinski will also move to Anfield in a £12m deal.
