MANCHESTER UNITED are plotting a stunning £70million for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – as Juan Mata considers his future.
United have been short of goals this season with Louis van Gaal’s side struggling to qualify for the Champions League.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 at Sunderland and have scored just 33 Premier League goals this season, far less than their top-four rivals.
But according to reports, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has identified Borussia Dortmund star Aubameyang as the club’s No 1 summer signing.
Aubameyang, 26, would cost at least £60million and would expect wages in the region of £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford.
The Mirror claim Arsenal are interested in the Gabon international but have been scared off by Dortmund’s demands.
Liverpool have also been linked with Aubameyang, who played under Jurgen Klopp during his time with the German giants.
The African player of the year has scored 20 goals in 20 Bundesliga games this season and is admired across Europe.
While United plot a move for Aubameyang, Spanish midfielder Mata is apparently considering his next move.
The former Chelsea playmaker is believed to be a target for Atletico Madrid and three Chinese Super League clubs.
And the Daily Star report Mata will consider quitting United if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
With Jose Mourinho expected to replace Louis van Gaal as Old Trafford this summer, the 27-year-old’s future is under threat.
Mourinho sold Mata to United for £37million in January 2015 during his second spell as Blues boss.
The Real Madrid graduate could land a mega deal in China but is thought to prefer a return to La Liga with Atletico.
