Man United ready to make Mourinho the highest paid manager in history

Manchester United are prepared to make Jose Mourinho the highest paid manager in history by offering him a three-year deal worth £20 million per season in May.

The former Chelsea manager is expected to replace Louis van Gaal in the dugout at Old Trafford next season and will earn approximately double the Dutchman’s current salary.

Mourinho’s contract, which will include bonuses for winning the title and other trophies, will also mean he earns significantly more than his rival Pep Guardiola stands to make at Manchester City, as his wage is reported by The Sun to be £15m per season.

Although the contract is yet to be officially signed, as Van Gaal is still United’s manager, The Sun report that Mourinho and his advisors are convinced that a deal between themselves and the club is done and dusted.

The deal highlights just how desperate the Old Trafford hierarchy are to get Mourinho on board as they seek to re-establish United as a dominant force in the domestic and European game.

Apart from Sir Alex Ferguson, Mourinho is (alongside Arsene Wenger) the most successful manager in the history of the Premier League having lifted the title on three occasions, including in the 2014/15 season.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have endured a difficult season so far but following their 1-0 win over City last weekend remain in the hunt to secure Champions League football for next season.
