Marcos Alonso ‘follows’ Chelsea on Twitter after arriving to complete £23m transfer

Marcos Alonso has dropped a huge hint that he is about to complete his £23 million transfer from Fiorentina to Chelsea by following the club on Twitter.

Blues manager Antonio Conte has been keen to recruit a left-back since allowing Baba Rahman and Kenedy to leave the club on loan deals to Schalke and Watford respectively.

Negotiations have been ongoing for days and it seems now that the deal will go ahead on deadline day, with the former Bolton and Real Madrid defender at ease enough to follow what will become his new club.

The 25-year-old was impressive for Fiorentina last season, scoring three goals and registering four assists in 31 Serie A appearances, despite playing in defence.

Alonso will provide back up for the flexible Cesar Aspilicueta, who can play on either side of the defence, with Branislav Ivanovic and Ola Aina the only other genuine fullback options at the club.

Alonso’s previous experience of the Premier League is also a clear plus. The Spaniard spent three years with Bolton before joining the Italian side in 2013, before returning on loan to Sunderland in January 2014.

It now looks like he will be coming to England for a third time, becoming Conte’s fourth summer signing after Michy Batshuayi, N’Golo Kante and goalkeeper Eduardo.
