Mark Clattenburg to referee Champions League final

Mark Clattenburg has been confirmed as the referee for the Champions League final.

The Premier League official has been selected ahead of a series of peers from across Europe for the showdown between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Clattenburg took charge of the semi-final first-leg between Atletico and Bayern Munich and has been given the nod for the clash in Milan on May 28.

It continues a great few weeks for the 41-year-old who will also be in the middle for the FA Cup final on May 21.

He leads an English team of officials for the clash between the Madrid rivals, with Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner the additional assistants.

Clattenburg will also be at Euro 2016 with fellow Premier League referee Martin Atkinson.

The news comes just a week after he officiating the ugly clash between Chelsea and Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Clattenburg showed a total of 12 yellow cards, nine of which to Tottenham players, but was criticised for failing to send anyone off.

Meanwhile, Jonas Eriksson has been named the referee for Liverpool’s Europa League final with Sevilla.

The Swede is also set to be at Euro 2016 and has been in charge of five Champions League matches this season.
